Description	The Eagle Biosciences MutaGEL? r-Calcitonin kit contains a set of primer for amplification of the specific sequence within the human calcitonin receptor gene CTR. Amplificates of variing genotypes (C?T mutation, Pro463Leu polymorphism) are characterized by subsequent specific restriction enzyme digestion. Sample Types: DNA. ? Calcitonin receptor is a membrane protein produced by osteoclasts and it functions as transmitter of the peptide hormon calcitonin leading to decreased bone resorption processes. Sequence analyisis detected an frequently amino acid changing variability in the receptor gene. This polimorphism alters the bone density and fructure frequency if healthy persons are compared with osteoporotic patients or even between populations with different sceletal measurement. It could be shown that the polymorphism changes a phosphorylation region of the 4th intracellular domaine. By this, the in average more frequent allel ``T'' (Leucin) in Caucasians protects from the described pathogen effect (due to the more rare ``C'' allel (Prolin).
